Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family navigate their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
