Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Wilder

The striker has joined Sheffield United only half a year after instigating insulting chants directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. His lengthy career with Leeds finished through agreement this past summer.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading abusive chants about Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to lift his beloved club out of the drop zone.

Previous History Involving the Striker & the Manager

Both men had history prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight last season and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

All seems has been resolved with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Latest Playing Challenges

The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea and Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
