Severe Downpours Worsen Conditions for Evacuated Residents of Gaza, Officials Warn
Persistent precipitation over the recent period have intensified the already dire situation of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to relief organizations.
"Awful" Night Creates Serious Threats
A official detailed the weather overnight as "awful", with precipitation so severe that as much as 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.
"The recent weather was exceptionally difficult for the families. The storms were so powerful... And the gales were so forceful," stated the spokesperson.
Authorities voice grave worry that young ones sheltering in temporary structures in soaked garments will fall victim to hypothermia and various sicknesses.
Fatalities and Significant Destruction
The health ministry have confirmed that one baby has succumbed from exposure and at least 11 other people have been killed in roof cave-ins caused by the storms.
Additional accounts put a increased number of casualties. Spokespeople said that several homes had fully given way and dozens had sustained partial collapse.
