The buzz about The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
