Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Real Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Increase Tension on Frank

Spurs fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals can't be true Tottenham fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, marking their 10th top-flight at home defeat of 2025.

However the main talking point was Fulham's second goal when the keeper gave away the ball well outside his area.

He ventured out to handle a high pass and took the ball near the sideline.

However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian turned and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 yards.

Seconds later when the ball went to the keeper again, some Spurs supporters jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.

A particular of those jeering episodes really irritated the manager.

"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly booed the situation and booed following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Dane stated regarding the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be real Spurs supporters that act that way. Alright jeering after the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."

Tete had given Fulham a early advantage prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second period showing.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Hart remarked that the second score was "completely preventable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the role Vicario is playing. He's a excellent squad member, he's a real leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was deeply involved in what ended up to be the winning goal."

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game

Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said following the game that he had to take the feedback.

"The second score was a error of mine, I accept responsibility for it," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a poor way. It was an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He stated being booed "comes with the game".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "We can't be influenced by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It is on us to remain increasingly calm, to concentrate on ourselves. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to reverse results. Today is a poor loss and it's hard to accept."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Line'

In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was not an easy score for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the next most distant top division goal of the season – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally also came on the same day.

The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to target.

10 moments elapsed between Vicario exiting of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was 5 seconds after the clearance.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was out of the area for ages," Wilson said.

"I was surprised not one of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them covered the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"Udogie fell too, which gave me a little additional opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to make the right connection and get it towards goal. I felt a good feeling, the moment it came off my boot, that it was heading in."

Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank

Although Vicario's error led headlines, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.

This was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint club record along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home games against Frank's former club the Bees and champions the Reds to play before the close of the season.

Just a single of those victories have occurred since Frank took over from his predecessor in the summer.

"When you're down 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," said Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects seems to go against you too – the opening was a deflected attempt, the second is a mistake from Vic.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have suffered another match. Each fixture has a unique story, today we lost in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The second half was much better and with luck something we can use to learn."

Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging 9.5 attempts and three point two shots on target per match in the Premier League – their poorest rates on record in a one season (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He must take the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has taken a high profile role at a huge football club with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
